Happy New Year! Welcome to a whole new decade! As the clock ticks over to a new year, it really can feel like a new start. Mentally it’s a great time to take stock and think about some of the things you’d like to improve. While they’re not for everyone, New Year’s resolutions can be a good way to start the year with positivity on your mind.

Popular resolutions often revolve around things like taking up a new hobby, a lifestyle change like getting fit and eating better, or a mental change in the way you approach things like family or work.

But, what makes an effective resolution? One you’re really going to stick with? Harvard Medical School have this advice,

“Small steps move you forward to your ultimate goal. Look for surefire bets. Just getting to first base can build your confidence to tackle — and succeed at — more difficult tasks.”

Trying to take big steps too quickly can make things really tough. Fitness tracking app Strava analysed their data and found most people let their resolutions slip by the 12th of January.

So, if you’ve made a resolution, how can you stick with it and see success in 2020? The answer might be as simple as making sure you enjoy it.

Starting with a positive mindset about physical fitness is pretty important. If you approach fitness thinking it’s fun and accessible, you’re more likely to keep positive and experience the sweet taste of success.

Harnessing that positive energy can really help you stick to your guns. Pilates is a great way of improving both your fitness and state of mind.

Pilates of San Diego sees all sorts of people start classes, many as part of a New Year’s resolution. What makes people stick with Pilates when they start with us?
