How Pilates can help your body during those winter months

No one likes to say goodbye to summer but, like it or not, winter is coming!

There is a lot to be thankful for. We get all the goodies like the Jazz Fest, tree lighting, Thanksgiving, craft markets and, of course, Christmas (when else can you surf with Santa?).

Can you sense the ‘but’ that’s coming?

But winter also takes its toll on our bodies. While some would say we have it lucky here in SoCal since we avoid ice and snow. We do get a serious drop in temperature though. This means we’re more

likely to get coughs and colds, our skin dries, motivation is harder to come by, and is it just me or does winter make you feel hungrier?

The lower amount of daylight, and those delightful days when it just won’t stop raining, mean we tend to stay indoors a lot more. If you’re one of the 10 million Americans who suffer from Seasonal

Affective Disorder (SAD), then hang in there, we’re rooting for you!

This can all add up to a serious case of the grumps that can make winter seem like a little bit of a struggle.

We all know that trying to get out of the house and get some exercise is a good idea, but it never seems that easy when the time comes to get out the door!

What if I told you there was an exercise that boosts both your body and your mind, leaving you champing at the bit for more. Welcome to the winter-busting power of Pilates!

Exercise for immunity

One of the many benefits of Pilates is that it’s a form of physical workout, which experts agree is super important for keeping your immune system in tip-top shape.

The work that you do in a Pilates class will build strength, control, balance and endurance all while giving a solid workout. Your class instructor will make sure you stay within your limits, but really get the blood pumping!

It’ll leave you with that post-workout glow that keeps a spring in your step for the rest of the day and gives your immune system a great boost.

Keep those joints loose

The body tends to stiffen up as the temperature goes down. We might feel less active and all that Christmas social activity over the holiday season means we seem to spend so much more time indoors.

The reformer is an important part of Pilates and so easy to use.

Pilates, both mat and reformer classes, are great at keeping everything moving in the right way and the range of classes means you can mix it up when you need to.

The strengthening of your core will help keep your body in balance and the low impact nature of Pilates won’t stress those knees.

Strong body, strong mind

Our studios are designed to be warm and welcoming, you’ll be smiling before your class even begins!

Pilates focuses and calms the mind as well as toning and strengthening the body.

During a Pilates class, the instructor will help you create a positive and healthy relationship between your mind and body. The meditative nature of the exercises will aid your concentration and focus.

Many people who do Pilates find their overall mood improves. If you’re finding it tough to keep a smile on your face this winter, it’s sure worth a go.

Pilates is easy to get into, you don’t need anything for most classes except activewear and a bottle of water.

All classes are guided by an expert instructor who will make sure you get all the support you need. Our whole team will ensure you can work towards your own personal goals at your own pace. If you

would like to give Pilates a try, then why not head over to one of the studios?
